On May 1st, the local affiliate of the world’s largest breast cancer organization, Susan G. Komen Missouri, hosted their annual Impact Awards Luncheon at the Chase Park Plaza in St. Louis, MO. The event recognizes individuals and organizations that have made a clear impact in the local fight against breast cancer by going above and beyond in their contribution to and support of Komen Missouri.
Power of the Pink was proud to be awarded the 2016 Susan G. Komen Missouri Community Partner of the Year award. This award recognized the work that we do in conjunction with Komen Missouri, in making sure underinsured and uninsured women in traditionally underserved areas in our community can gain access to quality breast health care, including free mammograms.
“It takes many individuals, organizations and initiatives to make an impact in the fight against breast cancer. Komen Missouri is grateful for the support of all in our community who join with us in our year-round mission to save lives and end breast cancer forever.” – Helen Chesnut, Susan G. Komen Missouri Executive Director
Since 2010, Power of the Pink has worked to raise funds to help those who are most in need, contributing more than $123,700 to Komen Missouri, which has enabled them to reach many women in the St. Louis region.
We were proud to be grouped with past recipients of the Community Partner of the Year Award including the breast health program at Southern Illinois Healthcare Foundation and Missouri Baptist’s Breast HealthCare Center.
“The beauty of the Power of the Pink program has been that I’ve been able to meet with some very amazing people at our mammography van events on Walmart parking lots across North Dakota to Mississippi,” said Sherri Cliffe, Founder of Power of the Pink. “Many of those women have said if it wasn’t for our mammogram van there that day at the Walmart parking lot, they would have never had a mammogram and that it saved their life. That emotional piece is why we want to light up ball stadiums in pink across the Midwest to help bring awareness towards our goal of eradicating breast cancer.”
Susan G. Komen® Missouri is an independent, local nonprofit organization dedicated to fighting breast cancer and to meeting the breast health needs of the women, men and families most at risk and most in need in our 38-county Missouri/Illinois service area. They are the local source for funding programs that provide breast cancer screening services, breast health education and patient support services for those in our community who may not otherwise have access due to low income, lack of insurance or other barriers. Komen Missouri also contributes funding to cutting-edge breast cancer research.
